The Foundation of Self Worth
Building A Life of Worth & Fulfilment
At what size will I start to love myself? It’s a question many of us have silently asked, staring into mirrors or scrolling through filtered images online. But here’s the thing: self-love doesn’t come in sizes. It’s not something you’ll find in a smaller dress or a perfectly curated photo. Self-love begins with self-worth, and that’s where we need to focus if we truly want to transform not just our bodies but our lives.
Self-worth is the foundation of our entire experience. Imagine it as the base of a pyramid. Without a strong base, nothing built on top will be stable. Self-worth grounds us, giving us the strength to practice authentic self-love, which in turn nurtures a positive self-image. Yet for many emotional eaters, these three pillars become hopelessly tangled. Self-worth often gets mistaken for self-image, leading to the false belief that “I am what I see.” This can create a painful cycle of shame, guilt, and binge eating, driven by the idea that our value is tied to our appearance or our weight.
But here’s the truth: self-worth is not something that can be measured by a number on the scale or a clothing size. It is an unshakeable belief in your intrinsic value as a human being - a value that exists regardless of what you look like, what you’ve achieved, or what others think of you. When self-worth is intact, it naturally leads to self-love - not the superficial kind, but the deep, sustaining love that motivates you to make nourishing choices and prioritise your well-being. From this foundation, your self-image begins to shift. You stop seeing yourself through the lens of perceived flaws and start appreciating yourself for who you truly are.
